Although Europeans had contact with the west coast of the ‘Great Southern Land’ from the 17th century, European settlement did not take place until the 19th century. Indeed, it was not until May of 1829 that Britain’s Swan River Colony – renamed Western Australia in 1832 – was formally established. Celebrations were held for the centenary of Western Australia in 1929 and included the issue of the 1929 Western Australia Centenary Medal.
The 1929 Western Australia Centenary Medal
An iconic element Australian numismatics, the 1929 Western Australia Centenary Medal was struck at the Perth Mint. The obverse carries the portrait of George V by Australian artist Sir Bertram Mackennal – so well known from its employment upon Australian coinage from 1911 to 1936. The reverse carries George Kruger Gray’s distinctive, vigorous portrayal of a Black Swan, one of Western Australia’s most powerful symbols. Spanning an imposing 38mm, the 1929 Western Australia Centenary Medal is presented in Very Fine to Extremely Fine.

Rishi Sunak, whose parents came to the UK from the East Africa in the 1960s, is of Indian descent. His father was a local doctor while his mother ran a pharmacy in southern England. After a chaotic six-week spell in Downing Street, the UK Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation. Truss said she has tendered her resignation to the King, and the leadership election will take place within a week.
The Royal Mint, the official maker of UK coins, has confirmed that coins featuring the portrait of His Majesty King Charles III will enter circulation.
There are approximately 27 billion coins currently circulating in the UK bearing the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
“Queen Elizabeth II ruled with heart and devotion, and will be dearly missed by millions of people around the world.
The King’s portrait will first appear on a £5 coin and 50p commemorating the life and legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The 50p will enter circulation to mark the historic moment, and coins featuring His Majesty and Queen Elizabeth II will co-circulate in the UK.
The King’s effigy has been created by renowned British sculptor Martin Jennings, and has been personally approved by His Majesty. In keeping with tradition, The King’s portrait faces to the left, the opposite direction to Queen Elizabeth II. The Latin inscription surrounding the effigy reads “• CHARLES III • D • G • REX • F • D • 5 POUNDS • 2022” which equates to ‘Charles III, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith’. The effigy will start to appear on circulating and commemorative coins produced by The Royal Mint over the coming months.
The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) warns that it believes former British pilots or even serving British pilots are being lured to China with large compensative packages to train People’s Liberation Army personnel in the People’s Republic of China.
To stop Chinese recruitment schemes to headhunt serving and former UK Armed Forces pilots, MoD are taking decisive steps. The MoD said that there was no evidence to suggest that any former UK pilots have passed on any information which would violate the Official Secret Act.
In the meantime, Britain’s Minister of State said the UK government will looking to change the law to punish military pilots who pass on their expertise to the Chinese army. He also mentioned that there is no secret in their attempt to gain access to our secrets, and Chinese recruitment of UK pilots in order to understand the capabilities of IL air force is clearly a concern to UK government He expressed that China is a competitor that is threatening the UK interest in many places around the world.
UK Prime Minister Liz Truss apologized for her controversial mini-budget that crashed the UK Sterling, rattled financial markets and led to her firing her closet political ally. Despite of the huge pressure from the investors and party member, Truss insisted that she would lead her Conservative Party into the next general election.
Last Friday, Truss replaced Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng with Jeremy Hunt. Hunt then said that he would reverse almost all tax measures announced three weeks ago by his predecessor. Truss said it was painful to sack her “friends” Kwarteng as finance minister but said she stood by her decision.
Truss said that she still believed in the “high growth, low tax” formular she campaigned on to win the Conservative Party leadership in early September. However, she also recognized the UK was facing “very difficult circumstances at the moment.”
The US congressional delegation’s itinerary includes stops in South Korea and Japan, but no official mention has been made of a visit to Taiwan. However, the Taiwanese official said that Nancy Pelosi is expected to stay in Taiwan overnight. It is unclear when exactly Pelosi will land in Taipei.
China warned against the “egregious political impact” of Pelosi’s planned visit to the self-governing island that China claims as a part of its territory and reiterated that its military “won’t sit by idly” if Beijing feels its “sovereignty and territorial integrity” is being threatened.
Five people were injured when the video fell onto the stage during Mirror’s concert in Hong Kong. Three people were taken to hospital for treatment and one of the back-up dancers was seriously injured and is still in intensive care unit. None of the Mirror’s 12 members were injured.
Nearly 10,000 people attended the show that evening and some of them were traumatized by what they saw. After the accident, video of the moment the screen crashed onto the dancers went viral on social media and some of the views felt unsettled after seeing the relevant videos. Local charities have set up hotlines for dedicated counselling.
The incident occurred at the third night of the concert and fans complaint that there were accidents happened at three earlier shows. Mirror’s Fans had already warned that the stage and set seemed unstable and created a petition asking for concert organizers to ensure performers’ safety.
The remaining eight shows have been cancelled and Hong Kong’s Chief Executive John Lee has called for an imminent and comprehensive investigation in order to protect the safety of performers, working staff public.
